Is there a way to get the Sub- ID without having any type of online service from Nextel?

You need some type of internet access to get a SUB-ID.
A SUB-ID is just a number that identifies your phone on the internet.
Without internet on the phone, there is NO way to use it.
Nextel's basic NOL package is only like $3.50/month and it's well worth the price if you ask me.

Hope that helps,

Just send an email to Nextel Cust Svc asking them to enable over the air provisioning. It takes a day or two, but no questions asked.

I just called Nextel and I asked the rep if she could enable my ip address and she said the only way she could do it is if i sign up for a web package. so i signed up for the 3.50 a month one..if i cancel it..will i still be able to have free service when i finally get my sub-id..i don't really understand this process.  I mean she said the IP address identifies you online as a phone..so if i pay for this month and decide that i rather go with the free service that is on Nextel4Free.. will it still work...

I suggest that everyone at least order the Basic NOL plan for $3.50/month.
No problems that way. Dancing

If a Nextel rep knows what they are doing, they are not going to add your IP without an internet package. You can ask for an OARRS download and that internet will last for 15-20 days on your account. The over the air provisioning is too sparatic. Most of the time it will not even allow data transfer. Nextel is working very diligently to stop that. The best option is the Basic Web for 3.50, which i regret to say will be going away in the near future(most likely increasing in price, but offering more then it used to).

I got my SUB-ID without calling Nextel nor having their web or special messaging service. All I did was go to "NET" menu. Than I clicked "Nextel.com". Once I did that, it shows "My Account", "Sub ID", "Nextel Accessories", etc.

Click on "Sub ID" and it will show it.

Call nextel and ask them to enable express text messaging on your phone.  There is no monthly fee, you just pay 10 cents for each message sent.  This will enable your ip free of charge.  Thats probably why the last poster had thier ip enabled w/o web service.

And yes, I know this is an old post but I thought the info might be helpful.

I recently got over the air provision, but when i go to net it says that "aGPS message will go here"  Now i can access the download part of the internet where you go to "menu" then "downloads" .  I have an IP.  Is there a way to get free internet?

I can't get my sub ID!  It keeps saying aGPS message here.  The lady that took my call said I don't need it.  Is there anything I can do so I can get the sub ID with a good excuse?

Edit: Found my sub ID by first going into Menu > Downloads.  Then it'll enable security and you should be able to see sub ID there.

as long as you get them to turn on pay as you go Messaging "SMS" then you will be provisioned an IP address and SubID the only problem then is anyone can send you an SMS and you will get hit with a 10 cent charge per SMS.

Sometimes you have to power cycle your phone to get it to pull the SubID IP information from the cell network.

also i had to have my IP turned off for a few days since someone was SMS spaming Viruses to our company Cell Phones, but in doing so we had the offendor's cell phone cut off from there vendor
