Title: Internet?
Post by: nextncaachamp on May 31, 2005, 05:10:01 pm

Hey guys, I just read that to do all that free internet and text you first have to have a IP address. My IP address was not active, so I called Nextel up to activate it, and they did. Does that cost any money? also i did the net alert through the website and it worked, does that cost money?, also is that the only way to get free internet on my phone??

                                                                           Thanks

no, provisioning pay as you go text messaging to get an IP does not cost anything.  and the alert cost 10 cents for the intial alert, which means if you save the alert you will not be charged anymore.  and so far this is the only way to get free internet and text messaging.

I have never been charged for the netalerts since, as long as you have the pay as you go MSG turned on then you are good to go, since nextel is not going to charge for netalerts since they use it to send updated to your phone browser and other things as well.

Net alerts are completely free.  The only thing you will get charged for is sending/receiving text messages directly through Nextel.  If you use TekniWAP then you will never get charged.

http://www.teknidude.com/wap/alert.asp?help=true <--[ that page tells you where to find your sub ID. Write your sub ID down. Then...

http://www.teknidude.com/wap/alert.asp <--[ Go here and enter that sub ID in the box, before the _atlsnup2.adc.nexteldata.net...

Send and it should send a Net Alert to your phone. To get on the internet for free, go to msg - net alert - TekniWAP..

One thing I beleive that on the 860, it wont receive the Net Alert. I am not sure why, but if you dont ever get the net alert then I am sorry. Im not sure if Jason has any other ideas for the 860 if it doesnt work, but the only I know of would be to edit the code plug.

You dont have internet access/IP address. Call the provider and ask them "how can i download ringtones and stuff?" (even though you dont want to). They will tell you, "you need an IP address". They should @$$ign you one and then you should be good to go. Be carefull. I dont know how your provider handles the data usage fees. Mine is free with Boost.

nextboy360 I think you are confused Nextel charges .10 per Text Message not Net alerts;

Net alerts were designed so that Nextel can message you and also send links to upgrades and such without sending you an SMS (Text Message) since the net alerts can be designed to jump you to an off-site facility.

I have been using net-alert/tekniwap for more then 2 years and never received a bill from Nextel for using it.
